Teignmouth is a small town situated on the south coast of England. There was a fishing port as early as in the 13th century and fishing as well as trade in fish formed the basis of the economy of the town. Such state of affairs lasted for five hundred years, but in the 18th century Teignmouth began to change slowly. Fishing was slowly but surely being replaced by tourism, which began to develop intensively after the opening of the South Devon Railway in 1846. Today the town is a resort frequented mostly by amateurs of relaxing on the beach and walking along the coast.
