Chicago, which is also called The Windy City, is the third largest city in the United States. It is located on Lake Michigan from which the River Chicago flows out taking water from the lake and discharging it into the Mississippi River. It is interesting that the authorities decided to reverse the flow of the river in the 19th century. Prior to that time the river used to flow in the opposite direction. The decision to reverse the flow of the river was made in order to keep the city clean and hygienic – Lake Michigan used to be the source of drinking water. Today the Chicago River is crossed by the Michigan Avenue. There are the most prestigious parts of the city, known for their luxurious shops, shopping and entertainment centers, office buildings and hotels.
