Alaska is the northernmost and largest state of the USA. Due to virgin nature and harsh climate the Alaskan territory is not favorable for the human interference in natural environment. It is the synonym of wilderness and primeval natural forces. It is best described by a nickname that is used to refer to this territory – “The Last Frontier”. Concerning the climate Alaska is located in the temperate cool and subpolar zones and the lay of the land is mostly mountainous – the highest mountain peak of North America is situated there. Among Alaskan mountains there is a significant number of active and extinct volcanoes. Large areas of Alaska are overgrown with taiga and tundra, whereas the coast is full of rainforests characteristic for the temperate zone. There are also over 3 million natural lakes.
