Wrocław is one of the oldest cities in the country that is located in south-western Poland. The existence of settlement in this place was mentioned by the ancient cartographers. Traces of rich and turbulent history of the city can be seen everywhere. Despite significant damage during World War II, many priceless architectural monuments have been preserved. The most important ones are located within the old city, among them there are the Gothic Old Town Hall, the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Cathedral on Ostrów Tumski as well as numerous churches and houses that represent a variety of styles from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century. The complex of Wrocław tenement houses, consisting of more than eight thousand houses, is one of the largest and most valuable in Europe.
