Valencia is located in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the third largest city of Spain and one of the oldest in this country. It was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century BC, its name derives from the Latin word “valentia”, which refers to power or bravery. Such a name was given to the town in order to honor the bravery of Roman legionaries, fighting against Iberian rebels. Valencia was an industrial city for a long time, however, due to the rapid economic growth of the 1990s the city has experienced a surge of cultural and touristic development. Many historic monuments have been restored, especially buildings within the old town, which attracts more and more tourists who want to enjoy the atmosphere of the Spanish, Mediterranean port and take a bit of regional delicacies and seafood.
