Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the European Union. The city is the seat of numerous cultural institutions, including the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, Museum of Toys, Museum of Belgian Brewers or Museum of Musical Instruments. The Brussels cultural center – Mont des Arts, i.e. “Hill of the Arts” is situated in the center of the city. King Leopold II decided to develop that area as early as in the 19th century, with the passing of time the area was constantly transformed – the representative gardens with colorful floral compositions, cascade fountains and alleys full of walking people were created. There is also the statue of king Albert I sitting on a horse. The district’s panorama is dominated by the tower of the Late Gothic town hall, situated on the Grand Place. The perpendicular 96-meter edifice was built in the 15th century and represents the features of the Brabantine Gothic style.
