Opera house in Dresden (Germany) online puzzle
Opera house in Dresden is known as Semperoper, i.e Semper’s Opera. It is the second opera house – the first one was designed by Gottfried Semper in 1838. After only thirty years of functioning the whole building burnt down in result of the lighting producer’s mistake, who set a girandole afire. The rebuilding of the opera house was supervised by Gottfried’s son – Manfred Semper. The opera operated until the World War II, when the building was burnt down again in result of bombing and subsequent firestorm that destroyed the city. Fortunately, the opera house was rebuilt again after the war, it took almost 40 years due to laborious work of preservationists who were striving for the restoration of the building in its original shape. The reopening after the second reconstruction took place on 13 February 1985, on the 40th anniversary of the bombing.
