Sunset on the pier in Sopot (Poland) online puzzle
Sopot is a tourist resort located in the north of Poland on the coast of the Baltic Sea, inhabited by 38 thousand people. The town is situated between the larger cities of Gdańsk and Gdynia, together they make up the metropolitan agglomeration of the Trójmiasto (Tri-City). Sopot is mostly known as a summer holiday destination and major heath-spa. Nevertheless, its 515-meter wooden pier is the largest tourist attraction of the town. The pier stretching out into the Bay of Gdańsk is the largest construction of that type on the Baltic Sea. Interestingly, the pier is 75 years older than the town itself. The first pier was built in the first half of the 18th century and was only 31 meters long. The current size of the pier is the result of the reconstruction in 1928, which was initiated to commemorate the pier’s 100th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the town itself.
