Istria Peninsula is located in southern Europe in the Adriatic Sea. Picturesque Croatian village of Motuvun, situated on a hill, is geographically located on the Istria Peninsula. Originally the hill was occupied by soldiers as there was a military camp. In order to get to the top of the hill one had to climb over 1000 steps. From the 13th century it was taken over by the Republic of Venice. In the Middle Ages the village was surrounded by solid walls and defensive towers. The village is abundant in historic buildings representing various epochs and architectonic styles. The Renaissance church of St. Stephen is one of the most beautiful buildings in the village. The unique view of Motovun enraptures from afar as the serpentine of housing emerges from the green forest that grows on the hill.
