Yellowstone is the river flowing through the state of Wyoming. It is a right tributary of the Missouri River and is 1080 km long. The name of the river was given by the Indians due to yellow rocks lying on its banks. The sources of the Yellowstone River are in the Rocky Mountains. The river flows in the northern direction through the Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone Lake creating beautiful waterfalls and carving the Yellowstone Great Canyon. Until the 19th century the river was a water route used by Indians, since 1960’s it was used by the white settlers for irrigation. At present, due to the beauty of its landscape it is primarily a tourist attraction.
