Big Sur, i.e. “Big South”, is the area located on the coast of California, where mountains meet the Pacific Ocean. The coastal area is dominated by forests, which are full of coastal redwood, fir and pine. Due to the unique species of fauna and flora that occur in the region, a few state parks have been established and the protected sites have been designated. In order to connect the sparsely populated region of Big Sur with the other regions of California, California State Route 1 was built. Unspoilt costal landscapes have been attracting writers, film makers and artists since the beginning of the 20th century. Bixby Creek Bridge is the biggest tourist attraction of Big Sur, it is also the most recognizable construction depicted on pictures, paintings, postcards and even post stamps.
