Val d’Orcia is the name of the valley located in the region of Tuscany in the central part of Italy. Its gently rolling hills, vineyards and villages that are dotted here and there are the essence of the Italian landscape. Due to its unique beauty and harmonious coexistence of people and nature, the valley was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004. The valley used to be one of the most popular landscaped painted by the representatives of the Italian Renaissance painting. Today it is willingly photographed by both amateurs and professional photographers. Juxtaposition of the 16th-century paintings with contemporary photographs presents the unchanged nature of the Val d’Orcia landscape that has not been spoilt by the creation of large urban centers or touristic infrastructure.
