Sierra Nevada is the mountain range that is the part of the American Cordillera in the continental part of North America. Mount Whitney is the highest peak of the range with an elevation of 4,421 meters above the sea level. Mount Whitney owes its name to Californian geologist Josiah Dwight Whitney. The mountain is located in the Sequoia National Park and is surrounded by meadows and coniferous trees - mostly firs and pines - as well as coast redwoods. Mountainous area is cut by river basins and pristine creeks.
