The horn of plenty is a phraseme frequently used to emphasize the exceptional plenitude, abundance, or never ending prosperity. This phrase has antique origins. According to the Greek mythology, Zeus charmed the horn of Amalthea – the goat – so that it is full of all the goods that are desired by the person who owns it. The horn of plenty is also a popular object to paint among artists. It is usually filled with fruits and flowers. The seasons of the year that are commonly associated with abundant harvest and plenty of food are late summer and autumn, when grapes, cereals, vegetables, blueberries, nuts and mushrooms ripen. A big paper cornet, full of sweets and small presents, that is given to children who go to school for the first time, is also called the horn of plenty.
