Paris Arc de Triomphe, seen from the Avenue des Champs-Élysées - the main avenue of the city is truly impressive. A large, over 50-meter construction, situated in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle, was erected by emperor Napoleon I. The arch is built in the Empire style, which was prevalent in France in the first half of 19th century. Rich decorations of the construction based on the architecture of antique triumph arches (bas-reliefs and ornaments) make the Arc de Triomphe the second - after the Eiffel Tower - most recognizable landmark of the French capital.
