Nice is one of the greatest resorts in France. It is not surprising since there are as many as 320 days of sunshine a year. The city is located on the French Riviera and it was discovered by tourists as early as in the 1830s as a health resort. Initially Nice was the favorite place of the wealthy Englishmen, for whom warm and sunny climate was a pleasant break from the hazy weather of the British Isles. The newcomers built here their summer residences, beautiful Victorian villas, and for that reason Nice was called the resort of the English. However, the city became also popular among the Russian and French aristocrats, and today it is frequented by the tourists from around the world who enjoy the local sunshine and medicinal air.
