Dubai is the most populous and second largest city of the United Arab Emirates. It is situated on the north-east of the country on the coast of the Persian Gulf. Dubai that is known today, is a relatively young city. Its rapid growth took place in the 1960s when oil deposits had been discovered. Oil resources were quickly exhausted, which is why the regional authorities have decided to invest in the development of modern urban infrastructure, contributing to the creation of one of the most modern cities in the world. Bold urban designs, the world’s most modern buildings and the ubiquitous glamour have almost become the synonyms of Dubai. Looking at the pictures of this city, it is hard to imagine that only half a century ago, it was only a provincial fishing town.
