London is located on the river Thames and it is the capital of England. The area of the city consists of 32 boroughs and the autonomous administrative unit known as the City of London or Square Mile. The City is an area where the main shopping and financial institutions of London are located. The Cathedral of St. Paul with its impressive dome, the diameter of which is 50 meters, is situated in the center of the City, nevertheless, the district is dominated by modern skyscrapers. Tthe 180-meter building 30 St Mary Axe is one of them and its characteristic shape is jokingly called the Gherkin. Since the beginning of the 21st century new skyscrapers have been constantly being built.
