Rusty railway bridge on the Middle Island Creek (USA) online puzzle
The rusty bridge over the Middle Island Creek is located near the town of St. Mary's and it is a part of the North Bend Rail tourist trail, which is 116 km long. The trail was built along the former railway line dating back to the mid-nineteenth century as one of the most modern in the world at that time. The railway crossed the Appalachian Mountains and in order to eliminate significant differences of altitude, 52 bridges and 23 tunnels were built along, making it an extraordinary achievement of engineering at that time. In the 1980s the line was closed as unprofitable due to the greater attractiveness of air and car transport. However, appreciating the scenic values of the former railway, the state authorities have transformed its most picturesque section into a tourist trail.
