Hong Kong is a special administrative district of the People’s Republic of China, located on the Kowloon peninsula and several nearby islands. For many years, it was controlled by the British Empire and was subject to the influence of the Western culture. Today the worlds of the West and East intermingle here, creating unique culture of the city. Due to the high rate of economic development, the city ranks among the Asian tigers, which is reflected in the local architecture. The centre of Hong Kong is full of modern skyscrapers, with the International Commerce Centre – 118-story skyscraper built in 2010 as the best known. It is almost 500 meters high.
