Fortress in Rupea (Romania) online puzzle
The town of Rupea lies in the western part of Transylvania. The medieval fortress located on a green hill is its landmark. Archaeological traces confirm that the settlement existed in this place a few thousand years before our era. The present-day fortress was built in the Middle Ages as the so-called peasant castle. It served primarily a defensive function for centuries. The local people maintained the stronghold and found shelter there during the attack, but no one lived there permanently. Today the restored fortress with massive, corner towers is a tourist attraction, which offers views of the surrounding countryside.
