Denver is the largest city and capital of the state of Colorado, located in the central part of the United States. The city was founded in 1858 during the gold rush ongoing here at the time. Initially it was just one of the many simple mining villages, inhabited by people looking for gold and silver in Colorado. However, it began to grow rapidly over time, which resulted mostly from the wealth of local deposits. When the natural resources of the region were exploited, many newly established settlements and towns collapsed and ceased to exist. Nevertheless, Denver took the lead as the most important city in the area. Today it serves as the main commercial and industrial center in the central part of the United States.
