Monastery in Izvoru Mures (Romania) online puzzle
The monastery of the Assumption of Virgin Mary is located in the village of Izvoru Mures, in the Romanian Harghita county. The village lies by the national road linking the towns of Miercurea Ciuc and Gheorgheni. The construction of the monastery had begun in 1996 on the initiative of Bishop Ioan Selejan and lasted only 22 months. White, medieval-looking buildings are surrounded by large meadowland areas and flower carpets. The whole complex is concealed from the world behind traditional stone walls. Visitors to the monastery can admire impressive Byzantine-style frescoes and the iconostasis made of wild pear wood. Miriam Oprea is the monastery’s abbess.
