Certaldo is a small town located in the Italian region of Tuscany. This charming little town impresses with its historic buildings and narrow streets in its upper part known as Certaldo Alto. The hill is dominated by the brick twelfth-century buildings. The most famous Italian writer, author of the Decamerone, Giovanni Boccaccio was born and died in Certaldo. The square and main street of the town bears his name. The town is known for onion grown in the vicinity, the vegetable was immortalized in numerous architectural details and even appears in the coat of arms of Certaldo. Onion jam is the local delicacy.
