Gdańsk is one of the oldest cities in Poland. Its history dates back to the 7th century as the archaeological finds confirming the existence of the merchant and fishing village come from this period. The location on one of the bays of the Baltic Sea has always made Gdańsk an attractive place for merchants and craftsmen and for this reason the city has always been one of the richest in the region. This is evidenced by the Old Town houses with richly decorated facades, the former merchants' warehouses and stores as well as numerous churches and public buildings, e.g. the City Hall. Remarkable Gdańsk old town and the proximity of the golden beaches of the Baltic Sea attract thousands of visitors to the city.
