Dresden is the capital of Saxony, located in eastern Germany on the river Elbe. The city’s skyline is dominated by the Lutheran Church of Our Lady – Frauenkirche. This late-Baroque church was built in the first half of the 18th century, but during World War II it was destroyed as a result of allied bombing. The reconstruction of the church was completed in 2004. Its majestic structure is topped by the dome. The Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau, i.e. Academy of Fine Arts with a glass dome and golden statues is the other important building of Dresden. This 19th-century building is situated by Brühl's Terrace –the famous riverside promenade.
