Istanbul is the most populous and largest city in Turkey, administratively divided into dozens of districts. The district of Galata is one of them, it is located on the northern shore of the narrow Bosphorus Strait, which is also called the Golden Horn, and separates Galata from Constantinople. The Galata Tower dominates over the district – this 63-meter tower is also known as the Tower of Christ and dates back to the 14th century. The tower is made available for the tourists and Galata windows offer panoramic views of Istanbul. According to a local legend, was a daredevil in the 17th century, who personally designed the wings and flew out of the tower and then he landed safely on the other side of the Bosphorus. In the district of Galata there is also the Italian Synagogue (Kal de los Frankos).
