The Dutch city of Delft located in the west of the country is famous for its pottery and porcelain. It is also an important industrial and scientific center. The Old Town is particularly noteworthy, as there are plenty of historic monuments and it is cut by characteristic canals filled with water. Houses and rows of trees stand on the banks of canals. Small charming streets are beautifully decorated by flowers and herbs growing in pots as well as ivy climbing the walls. The idyllic atmosphere of this part of the town is emphasized by wooden benches placed in front of the houses as well as ubiquitous bicycles, which are the traditional means of transport in the Netherlands.
