Hercilio Luz Bridge in Florianópolis (Brazil) online puzzle
The city of Florianópolis, which is called Floripa by the locals, is located on the island of Santa Catarina in the southern part of Brazil. There are several dozen beautiful beaches. The city is willingly visited by tourists, not only in summer but also during the carnival. Hercilio Luz is the bridge that spans between the island and mainland. It is also one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. The steel construction of the bridge is over 800 meters long and it was inaugurated in 1926. The bridge owes its name to the governor of Santa Catarina. The bridge was closed in 1982 and was made accessible only for single-track vehicles, horse-drawn carts and pedestrians. It was closed completely in 1991, however, since 2005 the bridge is the subject of ongoing work that is meant to restore it and open for traffic again.
