Basilica of Saint Mary of Health in Venice (Italy) online puzzle
The church of Saint Mary of Health (Italian: Santa Maria della Salute) is one of the most recognizable edifices of Venice. In the years 1629-30 Venice experienced an unusually devastating outbreak of the plague. As a votive offering for the city's deliverance from the pestilence, the Republic of Venice vowed to build a church in order to thank Saint Mary for the miracle. The senate of the republic decided to build the temple in 1630. The monumental church was built and it is considered to be the most beautiful example of the Italian Mannerism. The Salute is an octagonal building, with the façade richly decorated by statues, columns, numerous details and ornaments. The basilica is crowned with a large dome, which makes the temple unusually beautiful.
