Old town in Salamanca (Spain) online puzzle
Salamanca is located in the west of Spain, on the plateau in the region of Castile and Leon, which is known for its dry and hot climate. The natural conditions influence strongly not only the landscape surrounding Salamanca, but also the architecture of the city. All the buildings within the historic center were built of golden-hued sandstone. Such building material gives the city a characteristic look, which may be associated with a sepia-toned photography. Sandstone is quite soft and it can be easily processed, hence the local craftsmen could show their excellent skills, creating richly ornamented facades and developing the art of architectonic detail. City squares are full of green plants, which contrast nicely with the city’s austerity as well as the surrounding nature.
