Saint Sophia’s Cathedral in Kiev (Ukraine) online puzzle
Beautiful white-green-golden Orthodox church – situated in the capital of Ukraine – has thirteen characteristic cupolas. Saint Sophia’s Cathedral (Ukrainian: Софійський Собор) has preserved the medieval elements of its construction in the form of three naves as well as Russian and Byzantine frescos and mosaics. The 6-meter mosaic of Our Lady of a Sign from the 11th century is best known – some parts of the mosaic were made of cobalt class. The construction of the temple began at the beginning of the 11th century and since that time the cathedral has been rebuilt and redeveloped many times. Near the Orthodox church there is a Baroque bell tower. The entire complex was enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 1990. Currently the building hosts a museum.
