The region of Big Sur, or the Great South, is located in the west of the United States, in the state of California. The area is famous for its beautiful landscapes, which include the coastal mountains and cliffs, as well as rocks washed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean. In the area of Big Sur there are numerous state parks and two marine protected areas. The region is frequently visited by tourists, but due to the protection of the environment there are not many hotels and accommodation is quite expensive. Monterey Bay and tourist resorts situated on its coast, such as Santa Cruz, are among the most picturesque parts of the region.
