Aosta Valley is a small region located in northern Italy near the border with France and Switzerland. Despite the fact that the region is much smaller than many cities, it was granted autonomy and is the smallest independent territorial unit in Europe. The valley is located in the heart of the Alps and it is continuously popular among tourists. It is a mountain terrain and more than 60% of its area lies at an altitude of over 4,000 meters above the sea level. This is where the highest peaks in Europe, including Mount Blanc, are situated. Beautiful alpine scenery, modern skiing infrastructure and numerous climbing trails attract active tourists from all over the world.
