Plant species in danger of extinction are protected in Europe. When a particular species is registered on the list of the protected ones, such a plant must not be destroyed, plucked, sold, exported abroad etc. The system of species protection was established towards the end of 19th century in Switzerland, where they started protection of edelweiss. Then such regulations were incorporated into the Austrian law, and consequently the idea of plants’ protection spread to other countries of Europe.
