The city of Sukhothai lies in the Thai province of the same name. Sukhothai was the capital of Thailand from the thirteenth to fifteenth century. Today there is an archaeological park where the ruins of the former royal palace, temple complexes and statues of the meditating Buddha are located. The remains of a medieval settlement can be visited on foot, with the use of a tuk-tuk, or cycling. Sukhothai Historical Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
