Venice is a city situated on dozens of islands of the Venetian Lagoon. The various quarters of the city are separated by canals, which are essential routes. Despite the fact that traditional Venetian gondolas are designed primarily for tourists (mostly due to high prices of the gondoliers’ services), the residents of the city often have their own boats, in which they travel to work and shopping. Narrow and crowded streets make it impossible to move by car or even by bicycle, therefore water is used for delivering supplies to stores, transporting passengers and collecting waste.
