Ålesund is a Norwegian port town located on a peninsula and several offshore islands in the North Sea. The residents of the town make their living out of fishing and fish processing, however, they also derive income from the ever-expanding tourism. Ålesund has a very attractive location – it lies between the beautiful fjords and the peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps. In 1904 the town had been completely destroyed by fire and shortly after the disaster it was reconstructed in the Art Nouveau style that was fashionable in the early twentieth century. The panorama of Ålesund, including the beauty of the harbor as well as Art Nouveau buildings that are unique in Norway, can be admired from a special vantage point.
