Hyde Park is one of the royal parks and green lungs of London – along with three other parks it creates a green island on the map of the UK capital. It was founded by Henry VIII in 1536, but is has been open to the public since 1637. Today it is famous for being a venue of rock concerts and a variety of sports, including water ones that can be done on Serpentine Lake. In Hyde Park there is a nineteenth-century triumphal arch, a rose garden, as well as decorative ponds. Statues, carved urns and fountains adorn the so-called Italian gardens.
