San Miguel de Allende is located in Mexico. The city is known for its impressive fortification and the Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco. The second part of the city’s name was added in the 19th century in order to honor Ignacio Allende, the national hero who fought for the independence of Mexico. The historic center of the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site – there are many historic monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Cobbled streets, colonial houses with traditional gates and facades with vines and blooming ivies can be found in El Chorro, the oldest district of San Miguel de Allende. There are also some monumental edifices in the city, including the parish church of La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel from the 17th century or Inmaculada Concepcion – the temple with a characteristic yellow dome.
