Statues on Easter Island (Chile) online puzzle
Easter Island is a small island of volcanic origin in the Pacific Ocean. It is well-known to the whole world. There are monumental stone statues in the shape of heads called moai. The island is home to almost 900 figures, which were carved out of volcanic tuff. The monoliths had been transported from the quarry to the places of worship where most probably important ceremonies for the local community were held. Nobody knows exactly who and in what period carved the great monoliths, there are many conflicting hypotheses concerning this issue. Researchers agree, however, that the construction was stopped in the 16th century, and the unfinished statues were left forever in the quarry.
