Night view of the MacArthur Causeway in Miami (USA) online puzzle
The General Douglas MacArthur Causeway is a six-lane causeway connecting the mainland part of the city of Miami with its insular part called Miami Beach. The decision to build a causeway on the sea was taken at the beginning of the 20th century due to the deteriorating technical condition of the wooden bridge, which is the only link between the two parts of the city. Construction of a new bridge began in 1917 and lasted three years. Originally it had been named the County Causeway, however, in 1942 it was named after General Douglas MacArthur, the commander who earned his glory on the fronts of World War II.
