Cambridge is a city in southern England, which is mostly known for the university center. The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209. Today it is one of the three best universities in the world. Cambridge is located on the river Cam, to which it owes its name. The banks of the river are spanned by numerous bridges – the Bridge of Sighs is one of the best known. The construction of the bridge was copied and is quite similar to the bridge located in Venice. The bridge is used daily by all the students and staff of St John’s College, nevertheless, it is also a tourist attraction. There are romantic corners with lots of small cafes near the Bridge of Sighs. Visitors may take a closer look at the bridge during a boat or gondola ride.
