Kul Sharif Mosque is located in Kazan Kremlin and is one of the largest mosques of Europe. It is the most important Islamic center in Kazan. The first mosque named after Kul Sharif was built in Kazan Kremlin as early as in the 16th century. The construction of the contemporary temple was finished in 2005 and the official commission of the mosque inaugurated the celebration of the thousandth anniversary of Kazan. The building is white and blue with golden details and it astonishes with lavishness. The temple is decorated with marble and granite, alabaster sculptures and beautiful mosaics that cover arched ceilings. The interior of the temple is ornamented with stylized 16th-century wall paintings, openwork balustrades and splendid stained glass high windows. In the mosque’s undergrounds there is the Museum of Islamic Culture.
