The green historic region of Périgord is located in the south-west of France. Forested lowlands of northern Aquitaine were originally inhabited by the Gallic tribe, during the Hundred Years’ War they belonged to England and only at the beginning of the 17th century these areas were again annexed by France. The region of Périgord is famous for the abundance of mushrooms, including the most expensive truffles. The regional cuisine is also quite exquisite as the local restaurants serve delicious foie gras. The river Dordogne flows through the region of Périgord and it is popular among enthusiasts of water sports. Due to beautiful landscapes on both sides of the river it is frequently visited by kayakers. The breathtaking landscapes can be also admired from bridges spanning the banks of the Dordogne river.
