Tromsø is a Norwegian city that was established in the 13th century. It is located on the island of Tromsøya, 350 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, and for that reason it is called the “Arctic Gate”. In the city, there are original 19th-century wooden buildings, museum of polar regions exploration, university, airport and the oldest cinema in Norway. The majority of the city’s tourist attractions is connected with the special “polar” location of Tromsø. In the arctic aquarium of Tromsø visitors may see bearded seals, whereas in the botanical garden – arctic plants. There is even the Arctic Cathedral in the city – this modern temple was built in 1965.
