Media City is the area of Salford located on the Manchester Ship Canal, it is leased mostly by media companies such as BBC, ITV, Granada, Satellite Information Services) and the University of Salford. The plans of building the Media City date back to 2004, when the BBC signaled its intention to move jobs to the county of Manchester. Media City covers the area of over 80 hectares, however, further development of the investment is planned. Traditional street names are not used in this unusual district but they are styled by various colors of lights and surroundings. The main thoroughfares are styled blue, white, pink, yellow, orange, purple and green, which makes it easier to a find way in the neighborhood. The architecture of Media City is extremely modern and the main office buildings were designed by architects well-known all over the world. The district has been connected with the rest of the city due to the introduction of Metrolink light-rail system.
