Ruins of Volubilis (Morocco) online puzzle
After the collapse of Carthage the Roman Empire took over the control of Morocco. The ruins of the city of Volubilis (called also Walili in Arabic) are the remnants of the Roman rule. They are located in the north of the country, near the city of Meknes. The first traces of human settlements on these areas date back to 3rd century BC. The city founded by the Romans had a classical structure that was typical for the Empire. The Romans built public baths, a triumphal arch or the Capitol, which was the copy of Jupiter’s temple in Rome. The city continued its development even after the collapse of the Empire. It lasted up to the 18th century when the sultan who reigned at that time used the marbles from Volubilis for the construction of the newly-founded city of Meknes.
