Stockholm is the capital of Sweden situated in the south of the country. Since its inception it has been an important port in the region. Today the waterfront in Stockholm is one of the most popular, vibrant parts of city and it can be said that it has been the same for centuries. In winter 2011 during the renovation of one of the waterfront’s parts the wrecks of five ships from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries were found. The docks of Stockholm shipyard were previously situated in this place, where, among others, ships of the royal fleet were built. Archaeologists do not know why the ships sank at the shore, but everyday objects found in the wrecks give a lot of information about the life of ancient mariners.
