Church in Filipów online puzzle
The church in Filipów was built in 1838, based on the model design by Ch. P. Aigner. Sources say that it was restored at the expense of the parishioners "through the efforts of Fr. J Myszkiewicz” in 1841 and enlarged in 1884 by priest W. Sienkiewicz. The church was desecrated by the Germans who occupied the town. The church tower located in the front of the church was blown up. The residents of the parish under the leadership of the parish priest, Father Dworanowski, took care of securing the building. A makeshift door was installed and the building was secured. In the years 1923-1937, the position of parish priest in Filipów was held by Fr. Stanisław Dąbrowski. Thanks to him, the Church was rebuilt. After war damage during World War II, the Filipów church was rebuilt thanks to the efforts of parish priest Antoni Kowalczyk and Henryk Pogorzelski. Thanks to the efforts of priest Kazimierz Uszyński, in 1978 it was enlarged by extending the side aisles, which enlarged the chapels and sacristy. The building has three naves and is in the Doric-classical style, its walls are covered with sheet metal. The floor inside the church is made of marble. A painting is placed in the main altar setting (it is replaced depending on the liturgical period). The council altar together with the podium comes from the cathedral of St. Wojciech in Ełk and was installed in 1999. The church is decorated with paintings reconstructed by Witalis Jędzul, a resident of Filipów. The benches were made by a local carpenter - Dariusz Szuliński.
